Sikh Men dressed as Katie and Tarini

sardart It’s a difficult act, balancing work and play, but we seem to have it down quite well. Amidst interviews and meetings around Delhi, Katie and I decided to liven things up for a jet lagged Moriah who got in to Delhi on the 5th of November. Sarojini Nagar- the market of wonders- gave us a whole newsardarkt world in Sardar outfits, complete with beards and turbans (Sardars= men who follow the Sikh religion).

We popped in pot bellies, put on men’s clothes and hid in the shadows of the airport, as my parents explained to Moriah that Katie and I regretted not being at the airport since we were stuck in traffic elsewhere.

As Moriah and my parents drove out of the airport parking lot we slid into the back seat on either side of Moriah (by slid we mean Katie hip-checked her out of the window seat). Not a word was said. A slightly dispersed crowd had gathered around the car, people saw us and couldn’t stop laughing, which made it difficult for us to control ourselves. After a good 5 seconds of quiet, we finally burst into laughter and gave ourselves away! Moriah explained later that she thought it was a cultural thing to give rides to random Sikh men and went along with it.

Since Moriah’s arrival, filming has been in full swing. We have been able to visit the Center for Science and Environment, speak to and travel to the Tehri dam area with Vimal Bhai of the Matu Jan Sangharsh, (check out his blog http://matujan.blogspot.com/ ). We have also visited the Renuka dam site and met with people in the region, so watch out for blog posts on our impressions from these!
